Marble Hill House A Georgian Donegal Villa Rental

There are places that stop you in your tracks the moment you arrive not because of anything dramatic, but because of a quieter, more persuasive magic.

Marble Hill House in County Donegal is exactly that kind of place. Perched on the shore of Sheephaven Bay with Marble Hill Beach just five minutes walk away, this beautifully restored Georgian villa arrived in our lives just before Christmas and left a mark that time won't easily erase.

Built in the 1800s and rescued from obscurity with exceptional care and love, Marble Hill House is the rare sort of property that makes restoration feel like an act of devotion. Every room has been curated with a distinct personality different patterns, different moods yet the whole hangs together with the kind of effortless coherence that only genuine attention achieves. This is not a house that has been decorated, it is a house that has been brought back to life.

Beautifully restored with exceptional care and love, a charming Georgian villa that feels like it belongs to another, gentler era.

The House Itself

Step inside and the scale of it catches you off guard in the best possible way. The grand stately drawing room commands the kind of hush that only period furniture in generous proportions can create, while the dining room with its long table set beneath tall windows feels made for long, candlelit evenings and unhurried conversation.

Everything is in keeping: the proportions, the fabrics, the fittings. There is not a single jarring note.

Sleeping up to ten guests, Marble Hill House is perfectly suited for family gatherings, milestone celebrations, or simply a group of friends wanting something truly special. The fully equipped kitchen complete with a generous larder means you can settle in for days at a time without ever needing to venture out. Though you will want to, of course, because the grounds and the bay beyond them are far too lovely to ignore.

The Setting

Walk out of the front door and in less than five minutes you are standing on Marble Hill Beach. The strand stretches wide and pale, with the waters of Sheephaven Bay shifting through every shade of grey and blue and green depending on the light and the mood of the sky. In December, with low winter sun cutting across the dunes, it is nothing short of breathtaking.

The views from the house itself out across the bay towards the beach are the sort that pull you to a window again and again throughout the day.

The grounds, too, are beautifully kept a proper frame for a proper house, with enough space to breathe in while staying close enough to everything that matters.

Natalie is The Heart of the House

A house is always, ultimately, the sum of the people behind it. Natalie, the host of Marble Hill House, is a warmth and a presence that elevates the entire experience. Thoughtful, welcoming, and genuinely invested in her guests' happiness, she is the kind of host who makes you feel at once like a privileged visitor and a trusted friend. Her care for the house and for the people who stay in it is palpable in every detail.

To summarise, our stay at Marble Hill House, just before Christmas, was one of those rare experiences that settles into memory as something altogether complete. Yes, the house is magnificent a testament to thoughtful restoration and genuine luxury. Yes, the location is extraordinary, with Marble Hill Beach a mere stroll away and Sheephaven Bay spreading its moody, ever-changing palette before you. But what lingered most after we left was something quieter and more essential, the feeling of having been truly welcomed. Natalie's hospitality transformed a beautiful house into a home, and in doing so, she reminded us that the greatest luxury isn't about thread count or period detail it's about being made to feel cherished. Whether you're planning a family gathering, a milestone celebration, or simply need to step away from the ordinary, Marble Hill House offers all of this and something more, it is the gift of time spent well, in a place that honours both comfort and grace. It's a stay we'll be recommending without hesitation, and a corner of Donegal that we love.
